Random orbital sanders are great because they don’t leave any marks and aren’t sensitive to the direction of the wood grain. And providing that your technique is good, will leave you with an immaculate finish – devoid of any pigtails (stop pressing down so hard!). If you regularly work with wood, you’ll know a semi-decent sander is worth the investment. But this review is not about a semi-decent sander. In my opinion, this is one of the best random orbital sanders on the market – and I created this review to show you why I think that is.

DEWALT DCW210B Cordless Sander Features

The DEWALT 20V MAX Orbital Sander itself weighs in at 1.9 pounds and features a texturized rubber over-mold grip which allows for a more comfortable sanding experience. Coupled with the fact that it’s cordless and has a lowered body, it allows you to get closer to your work surface for more control and maneuverability when sanding. This model has a 5-inch sanding surface with an 8-hole hook-and-loop sanding pad. This allows for quick and easy paper changing while also extending the life of your sandpaper.

Dust Management

This DEWALT Cordless Sander also features a dust-sealed power switch to protect against dust ingestion and ensure that your sander lasts the test of time. Power switches are a common weak link among power tools that create dust, so this is a nifty feature indeed. This cordless random orbital sander also comes with a one-handed locking dust bag that attaches quite securely to the unit. For more improved dust removal, you can remove the dust bag and connect the dust port directly to a compatible DEWALT vacuum. Alternatively, if you wanted to connect this model to any universal vacuum hose (1-1/4 inch nozzle), you can purchase the Universal Quick Connector separately.

Power and Efficiency

Being part of the XR (Extreme Runtime) line means that this random orbital sander has a brushless motor. This provides longer runtime and means you can work all weekend without having to charge the battery. It also features a variable-speed control dial comprising of 7 different options, providing a range of 8,000 to 12,000 OPM (oscillation per minute).

To top it all off, this product comes with a 3 Year Limited Warranty for peace of mind. Just like with most warranties, this one does not cover part failure due to normal wear and tear. In addition to this, you get a 1 Year Free Service and it comes complete with a 90 Day Money Back Guarantee, providing you keep the receipt (and don’t damage the unit of course).

DEWALT Cordless Sander Performance

I don’t think I’ll be able to go back to a corded model ever again! With a 4Ah battery installed, I was able to get a good amount of runtime from this sander. As well as this, it’s fairly quiet as sanders go, with minimal vibration – even on a higher setting. It fits well in your hand and the rubber grip makes it very comfortable to hold. All in all, I am very happy with this purchase.

Now, although I love this sander, it does have a few downsides. As it’s cordless, you will have to bear the weight of the battery while sanding. That said, I own quite a few batteries and found that the 4Ah DEWALT battery provided enough power while not being too heavy to manage. This is a small price to pay for a cordless random orbital sander of this caliber!

In addition, one slight annoyance is that you can’t hook it up to a dust collection machine or standard Shop-Vac, without some modification. With that being said, it does come with a handy dust bag that connects securely and collects quite a bit of dust.

Final Thoughts on the DEWALT Cordless Sander

As I mentioned earlier in this review, I believe that the DEWALT 20V MAX Orbital Sander is one of the top random orbital sanders on the market. My favorite feature of this sander has to be its design. It is cool and sleek while also functional, in that its shape allows you to get close to your work surface. It’s comfortable but effective, and powerful yet quiet. All of these points aside, it doesn’t necessarily mean that this is the best random orbital sander for you. There are many factors that come into play like your budget, project needs, wood type, etc. If you have any questions, please be sure to comment down below!
